History of Wallsend and Water
Wallsend is no stranger to flood events. In fact, records indicate that flooding has been an ongoing activity from time to time since the early 1800s. Between 1908 and 2007 Wallsend has experienced 7 such flood events with one occuring on average, every 16.5 years. The minimum time period between a flood event was 2 years and the maximum time frame was 42 years. The average depth of the water in Nelson and Council Streets were 1.2 meters with a minimum depth of 0.5 meters and a maximum depth of 2.13 meters.
